Automatic guardian rights planned for unwed fathers

Automatic guardian rights planned for unwed fathers

Unmarried fathers may be granted automatic guardianship of the child if they have lived with the mother for a year before the birth.

In a report carried by today's Sunday Times, it's claimed the Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter, is preparing legislation which would include the guardianship rights for unwed dads.

The Bill would also make provisions for guardianship rights for civil partners and in non-commercial surrogacies.
