There have been angry scenes in the Dáil tonight, over a decision to declare dozens of opposition motions on water out of order.
TDs have been debating the Water Services Amendment Bill, which provides for a nine-month suspension of water charges.
But dozens of opposition amendments, trying to expand the terms of reference for an expert group on water, have been ruled invalid.
The decision, approved by the Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl, was criticised by TDs including Ruth Coppinger of the Anti-Austerity Alliance.
Ó Fearghaíl: "The floor of the house will make the decision on these matters…
Coppinger: "An unelected civil servant is making these decisions…
Ó Fearghaíl: "Not true, not true…"
