Alert system for missing children to be established

Justice Minister Dermot Ahern has approved the establishment of an emergency alert system for missing children in Ireland.

The initiative will be similar to the Amber Alert system used in the United States.

The establishment of such a system in Ireland has been recommended by the Garda Inspectorate as a way of helping improve the investigation of missing persons cases.
