Ahern says Budget cuts will stand

The Government has insisted the remainder of its Budget cuts will go through.

In spite of climbdowns last week on medical cards and the income levy, Justice Minister Dermot Ahern has said the remainder of the Budget will stand, including the controversial education cutbacks.

Those cuts will be highlighted this week, with thousands of teachers and parents due to protest outside the Dáil on Wednesday.

Labour is also due to introduce a motion to the house focusing on the plans to increase class sizes.
