Justice Minister Dermot Ahern has said today that the threat from dissident republicans is "severe and significant".
Last week the British Government raised the threat level to the UK of an attack from dissident republicans to substantial.
The British home secretary Theresa May warned last Friday that the risk of a new wave of attacks by Irish-related terrorists on mainland Britain is a strong possibility - following advice from MI5.
Dermot Ahern said the Irish Government is working with other agencies to tackle the dissident problem:
"The threat from these so-called dissidents is severe…the level of threat from these very few people (to the UK) is significant and is something that on a daily basis our police are watching."
