Ahern appointed to conflict resolution group

Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has been appointed to an international advisory group on conflict resolution, it was announced today.

Mr Ahern, who resigned in May amid a deepening crisis surrounding his personal finances, will be one of up to 30 members on the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution.

It is understood the central Dublin TD was appointed because of his role in the North's peace process.
