71-year-old man shot dead in Mayo

A 71-year-old man has died after a shooting incident in Co Mayo this afternoon. A man in his 30s has been arrested.

Gardaí in Claremorris are investigating the circumstances of the shooting at Wallpark, Glencorrib, Co Mayo at about 2.15pm today.

The 71-year-old victim was taken to Galway Regional Hospital after the incident, where he was pronounced dead a short time ago.

Gardaí have sealed off the area for a forensic examination, and the State Pathologist has been called to the scene.

The arrested man is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Claremorris garda station.
