29% of all marriages took place outside of church in 2012

Almost a third of all marriages here last year were outside of a church.

The Cabinet's been briefed on how 29% of the 20,694 marriages in 2012 were civil marriages.

And 37% of those were held outside registrar's offices.

429 civil partnerships were also registered last year - 61% were male and 39% were female.
