New figures show that an average of 254 people were made redundant every working day this year.
Government statistics show a total of 33,876 redundancies between January and the end of June.
Forty-five percent of those were in the construction and manufacturing sectors with 44% in the services sector.
Mark Fielding of the Small and Medium Enterprise Association said the figures highlighted the urgent need for the Government to publish its jobs plan.
"We wonder is there an actual jobs plan in Government…There is a dire jobs market out there at the moment," he said.
