A man has been arrested after a poitín plant was discovered in Co Cavan.
The man, in his 40s, was detained after the still was uncovered along with 900 empty bottles and two copper cylinder tanks close to Ballyconnell in Co Cavan, near the border.
The illegal plant was raided by officers from Revenue’s Customs Service last Friday.
Also taken from the site were about 2,000 litres of alcohol liquid wash which is used in the distilling process, seven 200-litre barrels and one pump.
Customs described the plant and still as a “fully operational distilling unit” and said investigations are continuing.
