Zutons singer faces assault trial

The lead singer in rock band The Zutons will go on trial today accused of breaking a man’s nose outside a nightclub.

Dave McCabe, 29, denies assaulting Peter Appleby during a row outside the Korova nightclub in Liverpool last February.

McCabe – who wrote the worldwide hit Valerie which was covered by Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson – allegedly headbutted Mr Appleby.

McCabe, of Vale Road, Liverpool, will go on trial at Liverpool Crown Court this morning.
