'Youth in Revolt' a wasted opportunity

'Youth in Revolt' a wasted opportunity

Director: Miguel Arteta

Cast: Michael Cera, Portia Doubleday, Steve Buschemi, Justin Long, Ray Liotta

A funny, if ultimately shallow, coming-of-age story whose central theme revolves around teenage sex, the lack of it and how to get it.

Nick Twist (Cera) lives with his trailer-trash parents and is desperate to link up with hot tottie Sheeni (Doubleday) in order to lose his virginity … since she’s much more sophisticated than he is he invents an alter-ego based on what he thinks her ‘perfect man’ would be, Francois Dillinger, who leads him into a series of mad-cap adventures.

The lack of depth to the storyline doesn’t, happily, diminish the enjoyment – the film is based on the cult teen books by C.D. Payne – but more could have been made of the original material.

Star Rating: 2/5
