This is Kim Kardashian’s hair evolution

Most of us agonise over whether to cut our hair an inch shorter, but maybe we should all take a leaf out of Kim Kardashian’s book.

Her default look is long raven locks with a slight wave and a centre parting – but the 39-year-old has been known to switch up her style in the blink of an eye, experimenting with length, colour and cut.

Here are some of the styles she’s tried out over the years…

Tight Noughties curls

Few of us had our best hair moments in the 2000s, and Kardashian was no exception. The style of the day was for big hair and tight curls, and her locks were a far cry from the sleek look we’re used to seeing today.

Bangs

After 2010 Kardashian started to play around with her hair a bit more – and obviously, the first thing you try when you want a new look is a fringe. This long, in-your-eyes chop was definitely style over comfort.

Lighter locks

Before taking the plunge and bleaching her hair completely, Kardashian opted for honey blonde highlights. She kept the style pretty classic for the early 2010s – just below shoulder length, waves and a side parting.

Even though Kardashian’s trademark is long hair, she regularly gets the itch for a big chop. In 2015 she tried out hair that fell just below the shoulder as well as a bob, all in her signature, tousled style.

And in 2017 she went for a modern vibe with a sleek ‘lob’ (long bob) that was bang on trend.

BO WEST

Kardashian’s hair decisions aren’t always without controversy. At the start of last year she found herself at the centre of a conversation about Fulani braids and cultural appropriation, and she was criticised for referring to them on her Instagram stories as “Bo Derek braids”, rather than crediting the African history of the hairstyle.

Experimenting with colour

Missing Japan 💗 🇯🇵 💗

Kardashian doesn’t limit herself to brown or blonde hair. She must have been  inspired by the experimental Harajuku style in Japan last year as she wore pink hair for the trip.

Cher hair

Kardashian obviously loves singer Cher’s style, and even dressed as her for Halloween one year. She shows her Cher love day-to-day by wearing her super long hair poker straight and shiny.

This was the style she chose for the 2018 Met Gala, along with a gold Versace dress.

Bleached blonde

Obviously not afraid to take a risk or two, Kardashian often bleaches her hair platinum blonde. She spent much of 2018 as a blonde but quite literally stayed true to her roots, with her dark hair visibly growing through.

In 2019, Kardashian still doesn’t like to keep the same look for very long. However, what we have seen is her rotating a few of her favourite styles. Her go-to for the moment is long hair with baby waves, with a relaxed, beachy and almost wet-look vibe.

In fact, Kardashian went all-in on looking like she’d just come out of the sea with her wet-look hair for the Met Gala.

The other style she regularly shows off is exactly the opposite – a sleek long bob with curled ends, often wearing it as a high half-pony. This, and the fact she’s experimenting with dying her hair with chunky light brown highlights, shows that Nineties inspired styles are well and truly back.
