The official trailer for The Zookeeper's Wife will hit you right in the feels

It has war drama, animals, some serious heroism and it’s all based on a true story.

There’s everything to love about the idea of The Zookeeper’s Wife, and the brand new official trailer looks like it will not disappoint.

Starring Jessica Chastain as Antonina Zabinski, the film follows the story of how she and her husband Jan, played by Johan Heldenbergh, saved the lives of around 300 persecuted Jews, imprisoned after the German invasion of Poland.

The stewards of The Warsaw Zoo used the property, which was largely destroyed by bombs, to hide their “guests” from their impending doom.

Even though the threat of execution hung over anyone caught helping Jews at the time, the brave pair survived and were able to reopen the zoo 10 years later.

Details of the story were taken from Antonina’s diary, which were turned into a book by Diane Ackerman, published in 2007.

The Zookeeper’s Wife will be released in UK cinemas on May 5 2017.
