That Irish accent in Avengers Age of Ultron is actress Kerry Condon

We just got done pointing out that there's an utterly random Irish accent in Avengers Age of Ultron and now we've got word on just who lends their pipes to the role.

And according to Disney themselves, it's Irish actress Kerry Condon. The 32 year old native of County Tipperary is best known for appearing as the character of Octavia in HBO series Rome a few years back and also had a part in Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul - she was the wife of Mike's former cop partner.

In Age of Ultron, Condon voices an alternative version of Iron Man's suit, with her pipes accompanying his flying and fighting during the films climactic battle. She's loaded up into his visor as a program called F.R.I.D.A.Y. and we got a heads up from Disney again that is very likely a reference to the virtual personal assistant Friday whichStark created in the comics. The character first appears in Iron Man: Iron Protocols volume 1 which was published in October 2009 and started out as a sweet young girl and later a surly teenager, with Stark forced to semi-adopt the AI.

That extra content isn't mentioned in Age of Ultron, instead we get the somewhat jarring introduction of an Irish accent into a film that - apart from Paul Bettany - is mostly American or some awkward Eastern-European tone. There's no precedent in the comic-world for Friday to sound Irish so there's still a chance that this content was localised, though we couldn't get a confirmation on that. What remains strange is that Condon seems to be trying very hard to sound extra Irish for the role, but that's something we've unfortunately come to expect when native speakers have to ham things up a bit more for a role.

That's one mystery solved then and no doubt more easter eggs will be discovered as the film opens worldwide.

Avengers Age of Ultron is in cinemas now.
