Spy novelist John Le Carre is stepping in front of the camera and making a cameo appearance in a new TV series based on one of his best-selling novels.
The writer, real-name David Cornwell, has written more than 20 best-sellers often set in the murky world of cold-war politics and espionage.
He will appear opposite Tom Hiddleston in a restaurant scene in the BBC’s version of The Night Manager about a former British soldier who becomes embroiled in the arms trade.
The cast of the show, set to be broadcast next year, also includes Hugh Laurie as an arms dealer and Olivia Colman and Tom Hollander as spies.
The Night Manager has been translated into more than 20 languages and sold more than one million copies in north America alone since it was published in 1993.
Many of Le Carre’s books have been adapted for TV and cinema including including Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and The Russia House.
