S Club 7 star's former fiance cleared of assaulting her as trial collapses

The former fiance of S Club 7 star Hannah Spearritt has been cleared of assaulting her after the trial against him collapsed.

Adam Thomas, 36, of Chiswick, west London, was found not guilty of common assault and witness intimidation during a hearing at Kingston Crown Court.

The fitness trainer was due to stand trial after allegedly assaulting Ms Spearritt, 35, on June 3.

He was also accused of intimidating a witness on June 12.

Prosecutor Chris Hewertson said three of its witnesses were not available for the trial.

Mr Hewertson said the case had been brought in the “public interest” but requested for it not to proceed.

He passed a letter to the judge detailing the circumstances.

“There’s not here at trial sufficient evidence on which the prosecution can proceed on this indictment,” Mr Hewertson told the court.

Vice judge advocate general Michael Hunter said: “In these circumstances – the Crown having offered no evidence – I can formally record the finding of not guilty and the defendant can be discharged.”
