Police probe Kerry Facebook 'stalker'

Police were investigating a complaint from ex-pop star Kerry Katona today that she was stalked by a woman she befriended on Facebook.

The former Atomic Kitten singer and 'I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' winner raised the alarm when her online friend allegedly visited her mansion home in Cheshire unannounced.

Katona, 29, was told by police investigating the matter to be more wary of privacy issues while using social networking websites such as Facebook.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “Merseyside Police is investigating an allegation of harassment made against a woman from Greater Manchester.

“An officer has spoken to both parties involved. The complainant has been given advice regarding maintaining personal security and privacy while using social networking websites and the other person has been advised over their future conduct on such sites.

“A further allegation of harassment made by the same complainant has since been made to Merseyside Police and the officer in charge is currently investigating.”

It is understood Merseyside detectives are leading the inquiry as Katona, from Wilmslow, was in the Merseyside area when she made the complaint.

Katona, who is divorced from former Westlife star Brian McFadden, has endured a long and public battle with alcohol and drugs. She was dropped as the face of frozen foods company Iceland in the wake of footage showing her snorting cocaine through a £20 note in her bathroom.

The mother-of-four also addressed her battle against bipolar disorder in her MTV reality show.

Last August she was declared bankrupt after failing to pay off a £417,000 (€461,000) tax bill and in May this year she told GMTV that she was “skint”.
