'Outlander' an excellent sci-fi adventure set in Viking times

Director: Howard McCain

Cast: Jim Caviezel, John Hurt, Jack Hudson, Sophia Myles

Cert: 15

A quite excellent sci-fi adventure with the added twist that it’s set in Viking times and brings the sort of all-out-action that we remember from the Alien and Highlander films.

Caviezel plays Kainin, the space traveller who crash lands on Earth, circa 700AD, bringing with him a deadly predator in the form of monster Moorwen who sets about devastating all around him.

Our hero, pausing along the way for some light romantic relief, leads the fightback against the terrible invader … and brings us a gripping yarn packed with action and sterling battles.

You couldn’t not like this inventive story since it brings a strong and original plot to the screen, combined with collectively solid performances.

Star Rating: 4/5
