North Country is an excellent gritty drama

North Country

Director: Niki Caro

Cast: Charlize Theron, Frances McDormand, Sissy Spacek, Woody Harrelson

Cert: 15

Based on a true story; the first sexual harassment law suit in America; this gritty drama of a single mother (Theron) working in a North Minnesota mine comes just short of being the sort of work it should have been.

Certainly the playing of the three female leads; and Spacek already knows all about being a mining lady; is outstanding but director Caro might have been a little less biased when it came to depicting the males.

OK, so men can be pigs at times; but not all men, all of the time!

Harrelson is good as the lawyer on the side of justice and decency and, as an Oscar holder, Theron returns to form after some pretty dire films as the lady who refuses to be put upon.

Star Rating: 3/5
