Morgan confirmed as new CNN host

Piers Morgan will replace Larry King on CNN.

The former British tabloid journalist has signed a contract rumoured to be worth $8.4m (€5.6m) to take over ‘Larry King Live’, in a move he reveals he has “dreamed of”.

He said: “I have watched ‘Larry King Live’ for much of the last 25 years, and dreamed of one day filling the legendary suspenders of the man I consider to be the greatest interviewer of them all.

“I’m looking forward to brining my own style of interviewing to the world’s biggest, and best, TV news organisations.”

News channel CNN has been keen to point out 45-year-old Piers’ journalism experience – as in the US he is mostly known for his work on reality show ‘America’s Got Talent’.

CNN’s president Jon Klein said: “Piers has made his name posing tough questions to public figures, holding them accountable for their words and deeds.”

Larry King announced his departure from the show – which he has presented since 1985 – earlier this year, after it suffered a 36% slump in viewing figures.

Discussing his future on ‘America’s Got Talent’ and ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, Piers revealed he would not be able to continue working on all programmes.

He said: “Obviously some things are going to have to give.”

Piers will take over the show in January as part of a wider shake-up at CNN.
