Marcus Wareing is always a tough critic on MasterChef: The Professionals but he really let one hopeful know what he thought when he did not like his signature dish.
When Robert, who works at a small hotel in St Andrews presented the judges with a stack of venison, potato and beetroot with pureed celeriac, he got a demolishing from the tough star.
Marcus pulled a face upon tasting the dish before he slammed the presentation, said the ingredients were not well cooked and added insult to injury when he said he hated the sauce. His comments had viewers at home running for cover.
Good heavens. That was a savaging from MW. #masterchef— Andrew Stevenson (@the_a_stevenson) November 8, 2016
Marcus ain't mucking about here. Why not just chuck the plate at him? #masterchef— just jen at home (@msjenmac) November 8, 2016
Woah #masterchef is BRUTAL!!— Emma Burke (@TheCandidateEB) November 8, 2016
After the criticism, Robert admitted: “It was the toughest day of my career.”
And viewers could not help but sympathise.
Feel sorry for Robert - I thought the venison stack looked pretty good TBH #masterchef— Daniel R (@mooch1979) November 8, 2016
Earlier in the episode Monica Galetti’s challenge of whipping up a pistachio and raspberry tart with white chocolate creme anglaise in 25 minutes just seemed impossible.

But some were just distracted by her new blonde hair.
Its election night, time to focus on the real issues that matter: Monica Galetti's hair! #MasterChef— Dan Heathcote (@turbodan17) November 8, 2016
Monica's hair on #Masterchef - no, just no! 🙈— Claire Hopkins Ⓥ (@Ms_Claire1) November 8, 2016
