'Mamma Mia' tipped to become biggest-selling DVD

DVD sales of 'Mamma Mia! The Movie' are set to copy its box-office success, as a retailer predicted today that the film could become its biggest-selling ever.

The 'Mamma Mia!' DVD, due out on November 24, is set to topple Star Wars Trilogy (Episodes IV – VI) as the-best selling DVD before release, according to Amazon.co.uk.

The Abba-inspired film starring Meryl Streep has been top of the retailer’s DVD charts for the past two months.

Amazon said the film has already sold more copies before release than any of the Harry Potter movies.

It is currently the retailer’s third biggest-selling pre-order ever, just behind 'The Bourne Ultimatum', the biggest-selling DVD of 2007.

Sarah Hughes, DVD Manager at Amazon.co.uk, said: “We could well be looking at 'Mamma Mia!' not only being our biggest selling pre-order of all time but our biggest selling DVD full stop.”

The movie has already become Universal’s biggest UK film of all time. It has generated more than £57m (€73.77m) at the UK box office.
