'Let the Right One In' a successful blend of styles

Director: Tomas Alfredson

Cast: Kare Hedebrant, Lina Leanderson

Cert: 16

A dark and fascinating film with enough layers and sub-plots to keep you watching.

On one level it’s a vampire film, on another a thriller and on yet another a coming-of-age teen romance … and always much more than any single element.

Hedebrant is a 12-year-old boy who dreams of revenge against the school bully, Leanderson is the 12-year-old girl who moves into the apartment block … though she is actually 12-going-on-200, a vampire and possibly a murderer.

Throughout is the theme of love providing the strength to achieve one’s desires, realised in an underplayed drama of revenge and redemption … and all quite memorable, making it a hit around the world.

Star Rating: 4/5
