Jeremy McConnell denies assaulting Stephanie Davis but admits damage charge

Reality TV star Jeremy McConnell has denied assaulting girlfriend Stephanie Davis.

The Celebrity Big Brother contestant pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal damage when he appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, but denied a charge of assault by beating.

The 27-year-old is accused of assaulting former Hollyoaks actress Davis during an incident at a property in Rainhill, Merseyside, on March 10.

McConnell, of Swords, Dublin, admitted damaging property under the value of £5,000 belonging to Davis.

He appeared in court wearing a black suit and white open-necked shirt.

Magistrates adjourned the case to August 7, when McConnell will stand trial.

Davis was not in court for the hearing.

The couple first got together after appearing as fellow contestants on Celebrity Big Brother in 2015, months after Davis finished a five-year run playing Sinead O'Connor in Hollyoaks.

She first came into the public eye when she took part in the BBC talent-spotting show Over The Rainbow in 2010
