EastEnders’ star Jake Wood has revealed he has been axed from a US voiceover role after 10 years in the job.
He may be best known in the UK for playing love rat and wheeler dealer Max Branning in the BBC soap, but the actor has also provided the Cockney twang of the Geico Gecko for a decade.
He took to Twitter to reveal the news to fans of the cute lizard used to advertise insurance.
He also told one supporter that he had been cut because of a pay dispute.
A new voice now features in the latest commercial and fans were far from impressed with the change, calling for Jake’s return.
I can't watch @mrjakedwood on EastEnders in the US and now they've taken him from me as the Geico Gecko? Seriously bummed out right now.— Amy (@imamonsterrrrr) November 16, 2015
@GEICO if you think I didn't notice that you've changed the voice actor for your gecko you are dead wrong. This is a national outrage.— Chet Jaguar (@GRFracassa) November 5, 2015
They changed the voice actor for the Geico gecko and every bone in my body is crushed— Brandon Cruz (@brand_cruz) November 8, 2015
Jake is currently on a break from EastEnders, and was last seen in the soap in October.
