Is Lady Gaga's Perfect Illusion going to hit the top of the charts this week?

American DJ duo The Chainsmokers look set to keep their number-one spot on the Official Singles Chart for a third week, as Lady Gaga’s hotly anticipated new single Perfect Illusion is currently sitting in fourth place in the midweek chart.

On Friday, US singer Gaga released her first solo single in three years. It is the first track from her forthcoming untitled fifth album.

However, despite the high-profile launch of the song, she has been unable to topple the chart’s top three singles.

The Chainsmokers’ Closer, a collaboration with singer Halsey, is still at number one, while DJ Snake and Justin Bieber’s Let Me Love You is sticking at number two and Major Lazer’s Cold Water remains in the third spot.

Perfect Illusion is the highest new entry of the week, though, and – if it holds its position – it will be Lady Gaga’s first single in the UK top five since her 2013 track Applause, which peaked at number four.

Rounding off the top five at the midweek stage is Calum Scott’s Dancing On My Own, which is another non-mover.

Meanwhile, the Official Albums Chart is likely to see British indie pop rockers Bastille head straight to number one with their second studio album Wild World.

Their debut album Bad Blood was a hit and also topped the charts upon its release in 2013.

At the midweek stage, Wild World is leading the way with 7,500 combined sales ahead of its nearest rival, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ 16th studio album Skeleton Tree.

If Bastille manage to retain their early lead, they’ll score the top spot in the charts on Friday, battling some seriously stiff competition.

The entire album chart’s top five is comprised of newcomers, with Meat Loaf’s Braver Than We Are coming in at number three, The Beatles: Live At The Hollywood Bowl at number four and KT Tunstall’s KIN at number five.

Last week saw Ward Thomas – twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas – become the first UK country act to score a number one album with their second record Cartwheels.
