'Inception' star's brother dies aged 36

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's brother has died suddenly at the age of 36.

The 'Inception' star revealed the news of Dan Gordon-Levitt's death on twitter and paid tribute to his brother, calling him "f***ing awesome".

Writing on the micro-blogging site, he said: "My super hero brother @burningdan 1974-2010. Celebrate his life here because he's f***ing awesome.(sic)"

Dan worked as a performer on Venice Beach, California and was well known for his fire-spinning abilities - giving him his unusual nickname.

Writing on his website hitRECord.org, Joseph added he would likely "not feel up to" things in light of his older brother's death.

He said: "BURNING dAN brightly embodied that bold beastly bliss sometimes referred to as "the creative spirit.

"He would absolutely positively insist that we not let this bad news deter us on our collective mission.

"That said, I might not feel up to it for a little while.

"Watching this community blossom into what it has become never ceased to amaze him and me. We would regularly marvel at it and high five.

"Thank you all for that. There he is now pouring heaping hollowed watermelons full of love over each and every one of us.(sic)"

Dan's body is currently awaiting autopsy in Los Angeles as his cause of death is unknown.
