Gwyneth Paltrow says she is more focused on her lifestyle website Goop than her acting career – and she is glad people no longer “kiss her ass”.
The Oscar-winning star said she had “never felt so professionally fulfilled” as when working on the weekly online publication and it was taking up the vast majority of her work.
Speaking at an Airbnb event in Los Angeles, Gwyneth said: “Right now 100% of my time is on Goop. I’m going to do a week on a movie next year.
“I have a responsibility to my team, all 60 of them now, and my investors. I really want to make a proper go of it.
“I had no idea how much I was in a career where everyone kissed my ass and now people are like; ‘F*** you, what’s the bottom line?’
“I have never felt so professionally fulfilled in my life. It’s such a grind, it’s such hard work but it’s so amazing to be involved in something you believe, making a product you love. I much prefer it that no-one kisses my ass any more.”
Gwyneth refused to say whether she backed Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump in the US presidential election but said it was “such an amazing time for entrepreneurship”.
“I think it’s such an exciting time to be an American because we are at this amazing inflection point and everything is kind of up in the air,” she said.
“I took a crazy risk. I had a perfectly good day job. I was scared but I had self-belief.
“I think people are clearly tired of the status quo. My big take-away was I really need to open my mind, I need to understand better because I don’t.”
Goop was set up by Gwyneth in 2008 with the aim to “share all of life’s positives” and “nourish the inner aspect”.
But its mixture of diet tips and celebrity New Age lifestyle advice has been widely mocked by critics.
Earlier this year the website recommended a range of sex toys, including a £10,000 24-carat gold-plated dildo, while other entries have included a review of a book by a Buddhist monk praised for its “ability to demystify mindfulness” and detox recipes which recommend starting the day with a glass of “room-temperature lemon water”.
Gwyneth also uses the website to keep fans up to date with the latest twists of her celebrity lifestyle, whether recommending a brand of “non-toxic” nappies made by fellow star Jessica Alba or discussing her depression following the birth of her son, Moses, in 2006.
