Grant set for Downton role

Richard E. Grant is set to appear on 'Downton Abbey'.

The acclaimed British actor is set to visit Downton as a special guest of the Crawley family in the fifth series of the hit ITV period drama, the channel has confirmed.

Richard's character, Simon Bricker, is just one of three new characters who will be introduced in the new series.

'Four Weddings and a Funeral' actress Anna Chancellor will also join the cast as Lady Anstruther.

The 48-year-old star previously earned a BAFTA nomination for her role in BBC Two period drama 'The Hour'.

Finally, international actor Rade Sherbedgia has signed up to play Russian refugee Kuragin, who fled the Russian revolution after the First World War.

Executive producer Gareth Neame said: “We are delighted to welcome these talented actors to the world of Downton. The characters they play are set to bring yet more excitement and intrigue to the show”

'Downton Abbey' will return to ITV later this year with eight new episodes. The fifth series will be followed by a feature-length Christmas special in December.
