Firth open to Bridget Jones 3 role

Colin Firth is open to appearing in a third 'Bridget Jones' movie.

The 54-year-old actor starred as Mark Darcy in the two previous film adaptations of Helen Fielding's novels and has confirmed he'd be willing to consider reprising the role.

He said: "It would have to have somewhere to go. Back at the time, I said that a third one should only happen if we were telling a story about having moved into a different generation when we were all beginning to deteriorate a little bit. I think we might be ready for that moment!"

Firth admitted there are pitfalls attached to making a third film, but insisted a follow-up movie could be a success.

He told The Independent newspaper: "If it feels like you're trying to squeeze something more out when it's expired then that's deathly, but they can work if they're a developing series that stays fresh."

However, one role that has evaded Firth is that of James Bond, with the Oscar-winning actor admitting he's now too old for the part of the secret agent.

He shared: "That ship has sailed. I think there might be a bit of an age limit on Bond and even if I were to start now you'd have to be good for the next few."
