Ferguson reveals her newborn's father dumped her

X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson has revealed the father of her newborn daughter dumped her when he discovered she was pregnant – and confessed he had another girlfriend.

The chart star, who gave birth a fortnight ago, kept her heartbreak secret but has now spoken about the pain in an interview with Hello! magazine.

But she also told how the father of her other two children, Karl Dures, now wants to treat new addition Arabella as his own and has offered to adopt her.

In the magazine, which is published today, she said: “Karl has been a huge support, we’re really good friends. He was there for the birth and he has offered to adopt her and be her dad too.

“He has given her his name, which is lovely, so she will be the same as the other kids.”

Ferguson said she kept a brave face on amid the turmoil of her personal life.

“On the outside everyone must have thought everything was rosy at home. I kept a smile on my face and kept all my feelings inside because I had this awful feeling of shame, but I was heartbroken.”

She went on: “I was fuming when I found out, I was so angry. The way I was treated was wrong. I think some people think you’re devastated because you want the man, but it’s not that. It’s devastating for a woman because it’s a normal thing for your child to be wanted.”

Ferguson said, however, that she does not hold bitterness towards her ex, but is grateful for the “gift from God”.

“I don’t hold any hate towards him,” she said. “He wasn’t ready to be a dad and that’s up to him. I’m not in his shoes and I can’t force him.

“I’m happy with his decision now and I wish him and his partner well.”

During the pregnancy, Ferguson established a website to allow single mums to chat as she realised how difficult it must be for others in her position who do not have a strong support network to rely on.

“That’s all I kept on thinking. ’If this is hard for me, imagine if I didn’t have people to lean on and a career to look forward to?,” she added.

:: The full interview appears in the new edition of Hello!, which is out today.
