Doctor Who fans get glimpse at 50th anniversary show

The BBC has released the official trailer for the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, showing a sneak preview of the time traveller's next adventure.

The story of an alien time-traveller who brings human companions on a trip around the universe first aired on 23 November 1963.

The trailer unites two actors who have played the Doctor - who can change his appearance to cheat death – in the form of current actor Matt Smith and his predecessor David Tennant, along with newcomer John Hurt.

Billie Piper also makes an appearance, who played the Doctor's companion during the series' 2005 relaunch.

The "Day of the Doctor" will air on November 23.
