Charlie Sheen and his wife are to have marriage counselling.
The 44-year-old ‘Two and a Half Men’ actor and spouse Brooke Mueller, 32 – with who he has twin sons Bob and Max, nine months - are said to be doing all they can to save their relationship after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting her on Christmas Day.
A source said: “Brooke and Charlie still love each other, but they are very different.
“For the good of the children they definitely want to see if counselling will help before anything further is decided.”
According to the insider, the incident was triggered when Brooke questioned the future of their relationship.
The source told People magazine: “Brooke asked Charlie for a separation and divorce. This caused his temper to flare resulting in the incident that landed him in jail.”
Charlie was arrested for second-degree assault, menacing and criminal mischief while the pair were holidaying with family in Aspen for Christmas.
Details of the telephone call made by Brooke to the police were revealed yesterday.
She said: “My husband had me with a knife and I’m scared for my life, and he threatened me. I thought I was going to die.”
She paused when asked his name, before confirming: “It’s Charlie Sheen.”
Friends of the couple have already suggested that their marriage – which is Charlie’s third, having previously been married to actress Denise Richards and Donna Peele – is not working.
One pal said: “Brooke is very social and loves to be with other people and Charlie, when he's not working or rehearsing for his show, prefers to stay home.”
