Corrie's Kelly to dedicate a year to work

‘Coronation Street’s Katherine Kelly is giving up her social life for a year.

The blonde actress, who plays feisty Becky McDonald in the ITV soap, said that, as one of the programme’s best loved and most popular actresses she will have to commit much of her time in 2010 to the soap for its 50th anniversary celebrations.

She said: “I’ve written off the next 12 months to work.

She added although she’s featured in some high profile storylines this year - which saw her disastrous first attempt at marriage to landlord Steve (Simon Gregson) and subsequent second attempt which finally saw them get hitched – she feels lucky to have had some time off.

Katherine said: “This year, I’ve been really lucky and done a lot of travelling. Simon and I were fortunate because we had a couple of months off when he had a baby in July.

“But now we’re dedicated to making 2010 the best year the Street has ever had.”
