Coronation Street viewers left in tears as Toyah loses her baby

Coronation Street viewers were left in tears as Toyah Battersby revealed her surrogate had lost her baby.

Toyah, played by Georgia Taylor, is desperate to be a mother and decided to use a surrogate after failing to fall pregnant herself.

Her dream of having a baby was shattered during Monday night’s instalment of the ITV soap, when she told Eva (Catherine Tyldesley) that the surrogate had lost the baby.

Viewers were devastated for Toyah and her partner Peter Barlow.

“I’m so heartbroken for Toyah,” one person posted on Twitter.

“I feel so sad for Toyah right now. All she wants is a baby,” said another.

There was plenty of praise for the way actress Taylor was handling the emotional storyline.

One person tweeted: “I can imagine thousands of women watching #Corrie relate to Toyah and her plight – it’s so well acted and, presumably, well researched as it feels authentic.”

“Beautiful work, as always, from the wonderful @RealGeorgiaT,” said another fan.

“This superb actress so effortlessly conveyed Toyah’s sense of distress and despair. One can only have sympathy for the character, and great appreciation for ‘Georgia’. #TrueStar.”

Coronation Street continues on ITV.
