George Clooney is terrified the ageing process could halt his acting career, and is determined to star in as many movies as possible before time ravages his movie star looks.
The Syriana star, 44, believes he has found his niche as an independent actor/director but fears movie-moguls will soon discount his talents in favour of younger stars.
And he is on a mission to establish himself as a major Hollywood force before that happens.
He says: "I'm in a position that I know doesn't last very long.
"I know there is only a very small window of opportunity before they start saying, 'Well he's a little too old now. We don't want to see him doing love scenes anymore, so we'll kick him into the character-actor world.' And with that goes a lot of your clout."
