Clip from Emmerdale's dementia special episode revealed

Emmerdale fans have been given a sneak peek of the soap’s special dementia episode.

The December 20 episode will be shown from the point of view of long-running character Ashley Thomas, who suffers from stroke-related early onset vascular dementia. .

ITV released a clip showing Ashley, played by John Middleton, confused as he wanders out of hospital.

The one-off episode features changes to camerawork and editing to show Ashley’s confused point of view as he leaves the hospital and makes his way out on to the streets alone.

Emmerdale producers have worked closely with both the Alzheimer’s Society and MHA (Methodist Homes) for the storyline.

In recent months, the soap’s fans have watched Ashley’s condition gradually worsen.

Ian MacLeod, Emmerdale’s series producer, previously said: “People living with dementia face challenges most of us can barely imagine. So, I took it as a challenge to help people picture this experience – to put them inside the mind of someone living with this condition.”
