Carol Vorderman hints Joel Dommett is a bit too young for her

It may have raised hopes for the most unexpected – and adorable – romance of the year, but Carol Vorderman has officially squashed rumours about a spark between her and comedian Joel Dommett in the I’m A Celebrity jungle.

The reason is basically  because she is “two years older than his mother”, she told Good Morning Britain.

Asked about whether she “secretly liked” the 31-year-old, she told the show: “I do like him, but not that way.

“Joel is great, we’re good buddies, but I’m two years older than his mother.”

But even though their 24-year age gap may have put Carol off anything more than friendship, the pair are still very close, and apparently the whole IAC 2016 team share a Whatsapp group.

That’s right, their camp camaraderie wasn’t just for show, they really are best mates!

Carol said: “I wake up each morning and have about 83 messages… someone saying they’ve still got jetlag etc.”

The bonds they built, that warmed the hearts of viewers back home throughout the series, even surprised the jungle-mates themselves.

“It was a lot nicer than I thought it was going to be because everyone got on so well, genuinely.

“That surprised all of us,” Carol revealed.

“Everyone has said that’s why they enjoyed it, because it was more pleasant. I loved it, absolutely loved it.”

Carol met up with some of her former jungle-mates, including Ola Jordan, at the Sun’s Military Awards on Wednesday night.

And while it will be a busy 2017 for her – as she attempts to become the ninth woman ever to fly solo around the world next spring – we hope she’ll find time for a Team IAC reunion. Especially if Joel is there.
