'Black Dynamite' a real gem

'Black Dynamite' a real gem

Director: Scott Sanders

Cast: Michael Jai White, Tommy Davidson, Arsenio Hall

Cert: 15

Sanders and his cast have, to perfection, captured all that was brilliant, and bad, about the blaxploitation flicks of the 1970s … all the sharp, colourful suits and wide lapels, all the swagger, all the jive dialogue and all the action.

But more importantly they clearly know that a spoof of this kind must be delivered straight, however idiotic it really is they must play it seriously … and they do.

Our sex-machine Black Dynamite (White), the Afro-American hero of many a snappy-talking film, discovers The Man has murdered his brother and sets out for revenge, uncovering evil Whitey plots on the way.

And we have a funny, inventive, clever spoof of all those films of the past … with never a sly wink or nod to the audience. A real gem.

Star Rating: 5/5
