Ex-Big Brother housemate Ben today questioned the long-term potential of John James and Josie’s relationship, calling the pair “very different people”.
Australian John James and Bristol girl Josie have admitted their feelings for each other, and regularly cosy up together under a duvet.
But Ben, who last night become the sixth housemate to get the boot, said John James’ “intense” personality could make a relationship difficult.
The writer and broadcaster from London said: “They are very different people - not that that means romance couldn’t work but in my experience with friendships and romantic friendships I think longevity can only exist if you’ve got something in common with someone.”
He described Josie as “so laid back she’s almost horizontal”, while he called her love interest “the most intense person I have ever met”, who is constantly trying to work out who is playing games.
Ben added: “If I was a girl, or even as myself, I don’t know if I could cope with that level of questioning or scrutiny on a full-time basis. I think that could make a relationship with him difficult. But he’s very charming and very good looking and he’s got a lot of plus sides too.”
In the house, 30-year-old Ben was sceptical about the pair’s romance, and compared their relationship to that of a “pig and piglet”.
He today admitted the comment was “a bit ill-judged”, but explained that he was referring to John James’ “emotional need”.
Ben said Josie clearly “fancied John to bits” but the Australian “wanted and needed a nanny”.
“Obviously they really adore each other and I know what it’s like in the real world to have a soul mate because I have one or two,” he said.
“But whether he’ll be winging his way back to Oz or shacking up in Bristol - only time will tell.”
In his interview, Ben confessed he was “shocked” to have been nominated by Mario, and felt he had been stabbed in the back because Mario had previously assured him he would never put him forward for eviction.
“The only stabbing I did in that place I did in the front,” Ben said.
“I do think it’s slightly hypocritical and sly of him to do that, however much our friendship drifted apart. He can be incredibly b****y and spiteful at times but I never once nominated him so I guess I was a bit hurt he nominated me.”
