Avengers Assemble for The Graham Norton Show

Superhero power took centre stage on The Graham Norton Show this week – with Mark Ruffalo from the Avengers revealing that, for the first time, he got to act with the rest of the cast.

Mark was joined by two of his fellow cast-mates from the Avengers: Age of Ultron movie – Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen.

Talking about his character, the Hulk, he said: “When I did the first one, they shot all the stuff of me against a green screen. I had to put my head in a vice and do all the Hulk acting with my head completely still, which I hated.”

“This time, wearing a mask, I was able to act with the other actors. Last time, I did most of it by myself locked in a broom closet. Once the laughter was over, it was way easier doing it with everyone else.”

Mark also spoke about his children and how they react to him playing the role.

He said: “It was amazing in the beginning because I could get them to do stuff. I’d say, ‘go brush your teeth, your dad’s The Hulk’, and now I try it and it doesn’t work so well.

“I’ve got angry, but that doesn’t work after a while either. They’re like, ‘right, get green and big and then we’ll talk!’”

Jeremy, who plays Hawkeye, revealed he didn’t use a real bow and arrow in the movie.

He said: “No. I’d kill someone! I only did it properly once or twice for a close up and they had to clear the set so it didn’t go in somebody.”

Elizabeth, whose sisters are the famous Olsen twins – Mary-Kate and Ashley – opened up about having them as her older siblings.

She said: “They were always famous, since they were six months old when they started working. They have not stopped and they are 28. They literally do not know what it’s like not to work.”

Elizabeth, who plays the Scarlet Witch in the movie, said she was relieved her character’s outfit hadn’t followed the “scantily clad, comic book version”.

The Graham Norton Show airs on BBC One and BBC One HD, April 24 at 10.35pm
