Adele wins album of the year at BBC Music Awards

Singer Adele has picked up the album of the year title for 25 at the BBC Music Awards.

Unable to attend the Monday night event at London’s ExCel Centre, Robbie Williams picked up the award for her latest album on her behalf.

Accepting it from Lulu and Matt Goss, he said he has messaged the singer to say: “You know I’ve always loved you and I always will.”

Father-of-two Robbie congratulated Adele on a “beautiful album” and added that she is also an “incredible mum”.

Hosted by Fearne Cotton, Claudia Winkleman and DJ Gemma Cairney, the evening recognised achievements in the British music industry throughout the year.

Emeli Sande, John Legend and Craig David were performing some of their best-known tracks at the event, as well as The 1975, Lukas Graham and Izzy Bizu.
