21 celebrities who really botched it on the Oscars red carpet

It doesn’t really take an ugly-looking gown to put celebrities on the worst-dressed list.

In fact, all it takes is lacklustre outfits and unflattering silhouettes that should have been spotted by stylists to go from fab to drab.

We give our verdict on this year’s red carpet fashion fails at the 87th Academy Awards which was held in Los Angeles.

1. Andrea Riseborough

Andrea’s lemon-coloured Jenny Packham gown looks a tad out of shape and makes her svelte figure look frumpy.

2. Lady Gaga

This custom-made Azzedine Alaïa number should have worked, but then Lady Gaga decided to pair it with hideous red leather gloves.

3. Gayle King

With too much ruching around the waistline, this dress does absolutely nothing to flatter Gayle’s figure.

4. Solange Knowles

Solange Knowles steps out in style on the red carpet. But this time it looked like she WAS the red carpet in a Christian Siriano crepe cape top and billowing trousers.

5. Gwyneth Paltrow

This petal pink Ralph & Russo gown may flatter actress’s slim figure, but the giant flower on the sleeve totally kills the outfit.

6. Torill Kove

This metallic gown looks more tinfoil than red carpet fashion.

7. Ava DuVernay

This kimono sleeve dress with wide floor-length plaits is the most unflattering thing Ava could wear to the Oscars.

8. Anna Wintour

This bland pink number makes Anna look blander than ever.

9. Kerry Washington

Kerry’s Miu Miu creation was boring and unflattering. Her Scandal character Olivia Pope wouldn’t be seen within a mile of this drab ensemble.

10. Genesis Rodriguez

This ill-fitting gown makes Genesis look unkempt to the point of clumsy.

11. Dianne Warren

Songwriter Diane Warren looks like she got the wrong memo. The sequin jacket is paired with pointy black ankle boots and an unflattering tank top – did she just lose the plot?

12. Felicity Jones

The Theory of Everything actress had an unblemished red carpet success, until she turned up at the Oscars in this odd-looking Alexander McQueen tent of a gown. The sleek embellished neckline doesn’t quite match up with the puffy skirt and the result is far from great.

13. Karolina Kurkova

This dull-looking gown is made worse with unnecessary fabric at the back which makes Karolina look completely washed out. Supermodels should know better.

14. Blanca Blanco

This red and black plastic-wrap style dress looks like just one big mess that needs to go in the bin.

15. Marion Cotillard

This eyelet Christian Dior couture gown looked stunning from the front. But the outfit was ruined as soon as you saw the bold back detailing at the back.

16. Sienna Miller

Sienna’s Oscar de la Renta dress is straight off the catwalk but those unnecessary tie bows at the front serve no purpose other than being annoying distractions.

17. Cheryl Hines

This one-shoulder metallic number makes Cheryl stick out like a sore thumb at the red carpet.

18. Julianne Moore

Julianne’s embellished gown looks drab and washed out as it envelops her pale skin.

19. Lorelai Linklater

Lorelei chose a textured Gabriela Cadena dress for her first Oscars appearance. Unfortunately dark colours and Gothic undertones overwhelm the petite 20-year-old star.

20. Chloe Grace Moretz

Chloe looks like she’s wearing a curtain rather than a designer Miu Miu dress. The pockets are nice, but unfortunately they only serve to make all that fabric swallow her petite frame even more.

21. Nicole Kidman

This metallic gown with a red cinch at the waist unfortunately makes Nicole look like an 80s Barbie doll and is as far from couture fashion as it can possibly be.
