US records better-than-expected employment figures

Employment fell in the US for a third consecutive month in August.

Official figures show it dropped by 54,000 - far less than was expected.

The jobless rate now stands at 9.6%.

But more private sector positions were created than had been predicted - with 67,000 jobs added.
