Toyota reports £1.56bn profits

Toyota has reported pre-tax profits of £1.56bn (€1.78bn) for the last three months of 2009.

The results come as the world's biggest car manufacturer recalls vehicles because of faulty accelerator pedals.

The company is writing to owners to arrange repairs.

Some 1.8 million cars have been recalled across Europe and millions more in the US and Japan.
