New-car sales jump 72%

More than 8,000 new cars were licensed in June, a 72% increase on the 4,800 sold in the same month last year.

More than 61,000 new cars have been sold in the first six months of this year, compared with just over 42,000 in the six months to June 2009.

The numbers are, however, still well short of the almost 115,000 vehicles sold between January and June 2008.
