Merger creates world's largest airline

American Airlines and US Airways have merged - creating the world's biggest airline.

The combined carrier now has around 1,500 planes flying more than 6,700 daily flights.

The merger has been finalised after surviving a challenge from the US government and criticism from consumer groups, who fear it will lead to less competition and higher prices.
