The ISEQ index of Irish shares closed up 9.93 points at 3,025.25, a rise of 0.33%.

Notable among the climbers were Kerry Group, up 60c to €21.61; Icon, adding €1.95 to €18.95; Elan Corp, adding 10c to €5.49, and Aryzta, up 8c to €28.60.

On the fallers' board, DCC dropped 37c to €20.08; C&C shed 8c to €2.80 and FBD slipped 7c to €6.28.

Financial stocks were mixed, with AIB adding 1c to €1.23 but Bank of Ireland slipping 1c to €1.31 and Irish Life & Permanent closing down 6c at €3.10.
