A multi-million euro investment in renewable energy will be announced today.
It is understood the package will part fund the east-west interconnector which will link the electricity grids of Ireland and Britain.
The connector, expected be built between Rush, Co Dublin and Wales, will allow electricity companies to import extra energy from Britain as and when needed.
Green energy projects in the Republic and the North are also set to benefit from the new investment.
Energy Minister Eamon Ryan and officials from the European Investment Bank (EIB) will reveal full details of the scheme at Dublin Castle later this morning.
